Workforce and Economic Development Workshop

An immense crowd of engaged leaders attended a Workforce and Economic Development Workshop held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Elkton. Presenters included Josh Benton, Deputy Secretary from the Kentucky Education & Workforce Development Cabinet whose presentations focused on Creating Workforce Solutions in Kentucky as well as Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Priorities. Corky Peek, Sr. Project Manager from the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, and Mark Lindsey, Executive Director of South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council, spoke about the Nuts & Bolts of Economic Development. Matt Tackett, President & CEO of the Kentucky Association for Economic Development, informed the crowd of how to Grow Communities through Collaboration. Kristina Slattery, Sr. Workforce Project Manager of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, spoke on Aligning Community Priorities and Work Ready Communities. Dr. Alissa Young, President/CEO, Hopkinsville Community College, detailed how Local Workforce Solutions at HCC assists with economic growth. Ervin Dimeny, Staff Advisor for Apprenticeship at the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, informed the audience of the Registered Apprenticeship programs. The overall theme was to inform leaders and interested parties in how the community could take part in helping to grow the region.
